ATHENS, Ga -- Hilltopper head coach Dennis Felton met with his players on Monday night, but gave no indication whether he was in line to take over at UGA.
Felton, who called UGA his "dream job", declined to speak with reporters after meeting with his team. Mike Wells , a junior guard, said "No comment" as he and several teammates rushed away from the meeting looking glum-faced.
Several players said that Felton's loss would be devastating to a basketball program that had only one winning season in five years before Felton was hired in 1998.
Felton met over the weekend with UGA athletic director Vince Dooley, but did not say if he was offered the job. He is believed to be UGA top candidate, and he was the first to interview.
Felton, was rumored to be interested in UGA even before Jim Hirrick was fired last week. Felton told me 2 weeks ago, even before WKU was eliminated from the NCAA Tournament, that he hoped to be considered by UGA.
Felton is believed to want his entire WKU staff to accompany him if he makes a move.
WKU Athletics Director Wood Selig issued his own statement, wishing coach Felton well and went on to say, he expected this day to come.
Selig said a short list for the WKU job, would be 3 former UK players Travis Ford, Kyle Macy and John Pelphrey
